What is Bakkwa?
For many Singaporeans, bakkwa is their all-time favourite snack. Bakkwa, also known as Chinese pork jerky or rougan is a dried meat product that is sweetened and mainly produced from pork, though it can also be manufactured from beef or chicken.
To make the best bakkwa in Singapore, New Peng Hiang only uses premium meat that is thinly sliced and marinated in a blend of special seasonings, sugar, soy sauce, and other secret flavours. The meat is then newly roasted till lightly browned and caramelised over a charcoal fire. This meticulous cooking method gives the bakkwa its distinctive smokey and somewhat sweet flavour.
